The professor who created a “fake news” research guide choked with conservative-leaning news sites, a list now touted by Harvard University, has been outed as a social justice warrior hell-bent on taking down the “Dark Side,” which is what she calls conservatives.
The Washington Free Beacon (which is on the list despite its mostly straight news reporting) uncovered more details about the guide’s creator, Melissa “Mish” Zimdars, an assistant professor at Merrimack College in Massachusetts.
Zimdars is a Donald Trump critic whose research areas include “social justice,” and she has organized liberal protest rallies against student debt and refers to conservatives as the “DARK SIDE,” the Beacon reports, adding she created the fake news list right after Hillary Clinton lost her White House bid:
Zimdars runs the “OpenSources.co” project, which continuously updates the database for online developers to “leverage in the fight against fake, false, conspiratorial, and misleading news.” …
Zimdars describes herself as a “Feminist” and “Activist” on her Twitter account. She organized a rally against student loan debt in 2014, while she was a graduate fellow at the University of Iowa.
Her teaching interests include “identity, bodies, health, and social justice,” and she is currently working on an “anthology of essays” about “Fake News.”
“One article and video at a time, I’m gradually bringing my Dad and brother back from the propagandistic, conservative/Republican DARK SIDE,” Zimdars tweeted in 2015.
Zimdars refers to Donald Trump as “Drumpf,” and said illegal immigrants “contribute more to this country” than Trump “ever has or ever will.”
Zimdars also was “pretty pumped” when she moved to Massachusetts because left-wing Elizabeth Warren became her senator…

This is not the first time Zimdars has come under scrutiny. When her list was first circulated last fall, a World Net Daily report detailed more leftist bias held by the professor:
In addition to her new job as an assistant professor, Zimdars is also a columnist and contributor for Little Village Magazine – a left-leaning magazine that says it’s focused on issues such as “racial justice,” “gender equity,” “critical culture,” “economic and labor justice” and “environmental sustainability.” …
Zimdars’ social-media accounts are protected from public view, leading tweeter Vanessa Beeley to note that Zimdars “can’t take the heat. Named ‘fake media’ & then protected all her own media sites.” …
“Undocumented workers contribute more to this country (beyond taxes) than Drumpf ever has or ever will,” she tweeted on Oct. 4.
The same day, she tweeted to Pence that Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” comment does not equal “Trump’s constant sexist, racist, homophobic, and xenophobic comments.” …
As for her list of “fake news” sites, one Twitter user offered up the following “list of journalists who colluded with the Clinton campaign.” The reporters and news organizations in his post were not included on Zimdars’ list.
He tweeted, “Here’s the actual list of fake news sites from WikiLeaks. Melissa Zimdars is a troll.”
