A special education teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sex “hundreds of times” with a teenager.
Susan Weddle, 40, from Cantonment, Florida, is accused of having a sexual relationship with her son’s friend, who was 15 when their relationship is alleged to have begun.
The teenager told authorities last month that he had been in a sexual relationship with the teacher for more than a year, police said.
According to the teenager, he was 15 and Weddle was 39 when they began their sexual relationship. He told police he estimates they had sex “several hundred times” including at the beach, her house, his home and her vehicle.
The age of consent in Florida is 17.
According to the police report, the two had sex for the first time after the teen and Weddle’s son attended a football game together, before going to Weddle’s home where they started drinking.
The teen told authorities that he was intoxicated and tried to convince Weddle to have sex with him. He alleges that she denied his advances at first, before giving in.
The 40-year-old mother was arrested in the Florida Panhandle on Monday, the same day that she resigned from her role at the JE Hall Centre, according to Escambia County School District Superintendent Malcolm Thomas.
”We will not have any tolerance for a teacher that crosses that line,” Mr Thomas told the Pensacola News Journal. ”Allegations of crossing the line sexually with a student are some of the most serious allegations that a teacher can face.”
A high school guidance counsellor notified authorities in November of a possible relationship between the two, a report said.
On Tuesday, a judge set Weddle’s bond at $150,000. She is next scheduled to appear in court on 26 December.
