A resident of Grosse Point, Michigan decided to send his Black neighbor a message by displaying a Ku Klux Klan flag in a window facing her house.
Local news station Fox 2 Detroit reports that the man displayed the KKK flag after his neighbor, Jedonna Dinges, installed a security camera on her property that happened to be facing his house.
Dinges told Fox 2 Detroit that she installed the camera after someone put a cannister filled with gasoline in her dumpster, and she was shocked that the camera generated such a racist reaction.
“I said, I know there’s not a klan sign in the window next door,” she said. “And I opened the curtains and I looked and sure enough, there was a klan sign in the window next door.”
Police went to the neighbor’s house and convinced him to take down the flag, but that hasn’t stopped members of the community from expressing shock and outrage at his actions.
“We need to make it clear that that sort of behavior is not welcome in our city,” Grosse Pointe Park Mayor Robert Denner said.
“We’re shocked,” said Grosse Pointe Park councilwoman Lauri Read. “Sadly Jedonna was not shocked by these actions and that says a lot.”
