Former President Donald Trump, speaking to an enthusiastic CPAC crowd Sunday, slammed efforts to allow transgender women to compete against biologically female athletes.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats are even pushing policies that would destroy women’s sports,” he said to boos, noting that women born female are “incensed” that transgender women are breaking records they previously held. In Connecticut, some 15 recent girls state high school track and field championships have been won by transgender competitors.
Trump argued that “women’s sports as we know it will die” if coaches are allowed to recruit biological males, many of whom enjoy physical advantages when competing in women’s sports.
“We must protect the integrity of women’s sports,” the former president concluded.
The subject has been the subject of political controversy given President Biden’s vocal support for allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports. Lawmakers in several states intend to sue the Biden administration, arguing that schools and universities should be ordered “to designate its athletic teams or sports according to biological sex.”
