Novak Djokovic, the former world number one and one of the greatest athletes of all time, confrontation with challenges seems to be on a non-ending note this year since his vaccination status has been the most talked about and has been debated enough with a lot of opinions from different people. It all began with his deportation from Australia and not even giving him a chance to participate in the Australian Open, where he was the defending champion. If that wasn’t enough, his chances of participation at the US Open in 2022 seem to be minimal as he is still ‘unvaccinated‘.
Amid all the controversies and emotional turmoil, he managed to put in his best efforts and went on to claim his 7th Wimbledon title and 21st singles Grand Slam title overall at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship defeating Nick Kyrgios in his maiden singles final appearance. With this win, he surpassed Roger Federer‘s tally of 20 singles Grand Slam titles and is just one behind equalling Rafael Nadal‘s record of most singles titles.

The latest change in guidelines issued by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention provided relaxation on some of the rules which stated that unvaccinated persons will no longer be differentiated from vaccinated people which is only applicable to American citizens. This may be a small light of hope for the Serbian but the final decision is still awaited regarding his participation at US Open.
Many people extended their support for allowing Djokovic to enter the country and allow him to participate in the US Open. The recent person to speak in his favor is US Senator Rand Paul who extended his support to the Serbian player stating the irony that if unvaccinated migrants are allowed, then Djokovic not be allowed to enter. He even went on to take a look at the hypocritic nature of the government.
The Serbian’s vaccination stance has been firm from the start and he has been very clear about his intention of not getting vaccination anytime soon come what may. As a result, he had to miss out on all the tournaments of the hard-court events that led up to the US Open. It is a matter of time before the final draw is out for the US Open and we see whether or not, Novak Djokovic will be allowed to particpate or not.
