Teacher threatened to shoot class of children for not listening to him: ‘I’ve got bullets and a gun’

A Louisiana teacher has been arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot his third grade students during a disgraceful outburst.

DailyMail.com has obtained an exclusive mugshot of Robert Mitcham, 70, a physical education teacher at Downsville Community Charter School in Downsville, Louisiana.

Mitcham, 70, reportedly told his third grade students he ‘had bullets for his gun’ and he would ‘bring it to the school and shoot.’

Local law enforcement began an investigation into Mitcham just two days after a concerned parent’s report to deputies that their child ‘was scared’ as were other students in the class.

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Department along with its Criminal Investigations Division interviewed students who witnessed the incident.

Several students’ testimonies surfaced new information as Mitcham allegedly told the students ‘there were too many of y’all to get rid of,’ and he ‘only had six bullets in his gun.’

Parents brought their mounting concerns to a Board of Directors meeting following the incident

Deputies who spoke with Mitcham stated ‘he felt overwhelmed and just wanted the children to settle down,’ and that he ‘was not threatening them.’

A warrant was subsequently requested for Mitcham’s arrest, which would eventually happen on September 12.

He was transported and booked into the Union Parish Detention Center and charged with one count of terrorizing.

Parents brought their mounting concerns to a Board of Directors meeting following the incident.

One of the paramount concerns addressed at the meeting was the lack of communication from administration.

‘We as parents deserve to know what is going on in our school,’ Kimberly Chappell, a concerned parent told KNOE News.

‘At the end of the day you have to communicate with the parents about the safety of their kids,’ Chappell continued expressing her dissatisfaction.

Tony Cain, the school’s principal said the school is not legally allowed to publicly comment on the situation.

‘We do want to make it clear that the allegations by the parent reporting to the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office and those in social media are NOT consistent with the first-hand accounts provided to school staff from the students who actually witnessed the incident. We feel confident that the students were truthful and accurate with their accounting of the incident,” he said.
