Sometimes you read a headline and you think it can’t be true. But we can confirm that a big rig carrying monkeys who are believed to carry herpes and COVID crashed, and the animals escaped, leading to a massive search underway in Mississippi.

An update read:
All but one of the escaped monkeys have been destroyed. We have been in contact with an animal disposal company to help handle the situation. Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries is also on site with our local law enforcement. We are continuing to look for the one monkey that is still on the loose.”
When one reader questioned whether the sheriff’s post was a joke or real, they responded, “Unfortunately not” a joke.

Another person pointed out just how many monkeys had initially escaped, along with a video of the animals after the crash.

The sheriff’s department issued an update at the time of this publication that what authorities were told by the truck driver was, at best, misleading.
