Conservative firebrand Candace Owens is fuming against USA Today’s inclusion of President Joe Biden’s transgender Assistant Health Secretary Dr Rachel Levine among its nominees for 2022 Women of the Year.
The inclusion of Levine on the list sparked outrage from critics including Owens. The right-wing pundit railed against the magazine for featuring Levine, who is the nation’s first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the Senate. Owens also called on female leaders from across the political aisle — including Hillary Clinton — to support her pursuit of women’s rights.
“Whats a woman? I’m confused. I don’t know what a woman is anymore. It is funny and pointedly ridiculous. It gets back to what I always say about progressives which is that they’re always so progressive that they actually just regressive, right?” Owens told Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News Tuesday night, March 15. “It’s the same with feminism,’ she continued. “With early feminism, we were trying to create a space for women that was separate from men. We wanted women’s sports and for them to compete differently. We have women that train all the way from the time that they’re kids up through college to try to compete against other women. Now you can throw on a wig and say ‘Actually, I am a woman too’ and you can crush all of their records because it is so progressive it is actually regressive!”
USA Today announced Levine’s nomination on Sunday, March 13. “Rachel Levine is one of USA Today’s Women of the Year, a recognition of women across the country who have made a significant impact,” the magazine wrote, with other nominees including Vice President Kamala Harris and Microsoft founder Bill Gates’ ex-wife Melinda Gates. However, Owens was mostly irked by Levine’s inclusion in the list as someone who is transgender.

“We are actually erasing women and sadly, it was a feminist that got behind this early on and didn’t have the courage to say ‘no, that’s a man we are looking at!’ and feminists should be fighting this tooth and nail,” Owens said, before calling on women from both sides of the political aisle to support her stance. “Where is Hillary Clinton? I don’t want her perspective on Russia and Ukraine but I do want her perspective on this category,” she said. “The person who ran “on oh, my gosh, women are so oppressed and I’m a woman and vote for me because I am a woman.’ She seems suspiciously quiet on this topic and doesn’t want to touch on this topic about men taking the spots of women. So it is ridiculous.”

Owens offered her take on why Levine was included in USA Today’s ‘Women of the Year’ nominations. “It is always about disrupting the family unit,” she explained. “The government gains more power when people are confused. If you know whether you’re a woman or a man you’re not going to have a functional nuclear family. Instead, you will have a dysfunctional family. Dysfunctional people tend to rely upon the government. That is what is happening right now and that is what you are seeing the push for.” According to USA Today, their ‘Women of the Year’ program celebrates “strong and resilient women who have been champions of change across the country, leading and inspiring as they promote and fight for equity, and give others a place to seek help and find hope.”
Owens declared that a person’s sex wasn’t something that could be chosen at will. “I feel that is absolutely ridiculous to say that a man can be a woman and a woman can be a man,” she stated. “Why don’t we just pick our races as well? That is a question that trans people never want to answer. Of course, you can’t pick your race and of course, you can’t pick your race or gender.” She added, “You are born the way you are. Of course, we’re talking in reality and the left does not work in reality.”

Many on social media lauded Owens for her comments while slamming USA Today and Levine.
“She’s right again,” one tweeted.
“Can you reset the planet, please,” another added.
“Absolutely outrageous. What a slap in the face to all women. Shame on you USA Today,” someone else fumed. “As a father of 2 strong girls, for someone to claim they are a woman and receive an award is so hypocritical of the woke movement. ‘Break the glass’ for women and if you’re a man you can to take their space and claim it as yours?” another offered.
