Former acting secretary of the DHS says that criminals are taking advantage of the DACA program

Former acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf says that the DACA program is being abused by criminals to get into the United States.

“There are some individuals in the DACA population that are fine and are not public safety threats, but there are some bad individuals in that DACA population as well,” Wolf said on the Tuesday edition of the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “But the left doesn’t want to talk about that. They don’t actually want to affirm that in any way.”

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) released a report last week saying that many criminal immigrant youth qualify for DACA but hardly face any consequences when they break laws.

“At the end of the day, it’s up to career bureaucrats to adjudicate and decide if folks need to fall out of the DACA program because of certain criminal convictions, apprehensions, misdemeanors, and whatever it might be,” Wolf explained. “I think what we’ve seen in that report shows you that perhaps they are a little lenient on that. There are individuals that probably shouldn’t stay in that program.”

The report from the CIS shows that a lot of the youth applying for DACA had been involved in gang activity and had charges against them for certain crimes.

“Despite the successful framing of Dreamers and DACA recipients as young people with no criminal records, it turns out that many were affiliated with gangs and many had arrest records when granted DACA benefits, and many others saw their DACA status terminated because of criminal activity,” the report reads.

Wolf said that this is an issue that Congress really needs to get to the root of and figure it out.

Congress has to figure out how to solve this problem,” Wolf expressed. “It has nothing to do with the individuals that are already here — in the DACA population. It has to do with the illegal activity and the pool factors that this administration continues to ignore.”
