The attack happened just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at an Enfield intersection and was reported by “a concerned parent,” police said. Enfield is about a 70-mile drive northeast from Raleigh.

“Three individuals came onto the school bus wearing hooded sweatshirts and ski masks. … The individuals in the ski masks were attempting to attack others that were on the school bus,” police said.

The intruders were gone by the time police and Halifax County deputies arrived, officials said.

The bus was carrying students from Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy in Halifax, according to principal Kenneth Perry Jr.

“Thankfully, our students were unharmed, and the situation was resolved quickly,” Perry said in the release. “We are actively investigating the matter and reviewing our security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. To reinforce our commitment to safety, we will be conducting a review of our bus procedures with both students and staff.”

Investigators say they have three suspects, all juveniles, and charges are expected, officials said.
