U.S. President Donald Trump ambushed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House on Wednesday as he played a series of shocking videos allegedly showing genocide. In the middle of the meeting, the lights in the Oval Office were dimmed and a video was played. Many of the still showed he bodies in burial pits. “Those people were all killed,” Trump told the crowd as Ramaphosa asked his counterpart if he knew where that was.

Trump told Ramaphosa that he did not know, to which Ramaphosa said that he would like to know, as “I have never seen this.” Ramaphosa added that he “needed to find out.”

Trump doubled down on the comments by saying the South African president is “considered controversial in some circles.” After spending some time talking about the abilities of some golfers Trump said he and Ramaphosa would be discussing “some things you’ve read in the media” including the G20, and says: “We’ll see if we can help on some things in South Africa.”

The meeting between Trump and Ramaphosa comes a week after the president made claims that a “white genocide” was taking place in the country.

In February, a South African court dismissed claims of a white genocide as “clearly imagined” and “not real.”

Data from the police revealed that 44 people have been killed on farms and agricultural land in 2024, with eight farmers among the victims. There were fewer than 150 attacks involving farmers that occurred during the entirety of 2023.
