Democratic California Sen. Alex Padilla got emotional on Saturday during a segment on MSNBC when talking about Vice President JD Vance calling him “Jose.”
Padilla said that this showed how “petty and unserious” President Donald Trump’s administration really is. He also criticized the vice president for not speaking with families and employers affected by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in California.

“You saw him shaking hands with marines, but did he really listen to the marines? Because we have…report after report of the marines, certainly the marines themselves that don’t want to be there. That’s not why they enlisted, or if not the migrant families, how about the employers, who I know are speaking up because they’re concerned about their workforce,” he went on to say.
On Friday Vance was asked during a press conference about the situation with Senator Padilla being detained by security during a press briefing with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. (RELATED: Democrat Theater Kid Learns He’s Not Above The Law)

Taylor Van Kirk, a spokesperson for the vice president, told CNN that “he must have mixed up two people who have broken the law.”
In 2007, a man named Jose Padilla was found guilty of supporting Islamic terrorism overseas. He was also a former gang member from Chicago, the outlet noted.
Other Democratic politicians were also outraged by the vice president mixing the two up.

“We got a lot of important work to do, but this is how the vice president chooses to act and that says a lot,” Padilla finished the segment by saying.
