President Trump took aim again at the four minority Democratic congresswomen he told on Sunday to “go back” where they came from, calling on them to apologize for the “terrible things they have said.”
“When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said,” Trump tweeted on Monday. “So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!”
Less than an hour later, he tweeted about the four again.
“If Democrats want to unite around the foul language & racist hatred spewed from the mouths and actions of these very unpopular & unrepresentative Congresswomen, it will be interesting to see how it plays out,” he said. “I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.”
The president lashed out at the “Progressive Democrat Congresswomen,” suggesting that they “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
He didn’t include any names in the tweet but apparently was referring to a quartet of freshman Democrats collectively known as “The Squad” — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.
All four of the women are US citizens and three were born in the US.
Omar of Minnesota was born in Somalia but came to the US with her family when she was 12 and later became a citizen.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who had been feuding with the four lawmakers over immigration policy, defended them Sunday and rebuked Trump for “xenophobic comments [meant] to divide our nation.”
She also mocked Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” saying it has “always been about making America white again.”
Three of the four — Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib and Pressley — testified last Friday to a House committee about the deplorable conditions at migrant detention centers on the border.
