Crenshaw Smacks Down Bernie’s ‘Disgusting’ Attempt to Sell Socialism to Veterans: You Can’t Pander to Us

Rep. Dan Crenshaw accused 2020 presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders of pandering to veterans in a scathing Tuesday morning tweet.

Crenshaw, a Texas Republican, was replying to a weekend tweet from the Vermont Independent, in which Sanders said: “If you can’t afford to take care of your veterans, then don’t go to war.”

“Watching Bernie pander to different groups to get their vote has always disgusted me, but now it’s personal,” the Texas Republican tweeted in reply.

“I didn’t go to war so that you would take care of me, Bernie. I went because I wanted to serve and our country needed it,” he added.

Sanders, a leading contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, has championed improving veteran care as part of his broader stance on affordable healthcare. According to his official website, Sanders favors fully funding and expanding the Department of Veterans Affairs, streamlining compensation claims for veterans and increasing access to mental health services.

Crenshaw v. Bernie, redux

Crenshaw, an advocate for the free market, has criticized Sanders vehemently and often in the past.

In April, he took a dig at Sanders’ socialist-style agenda, demanding he “Stop trying to convince people they need government to save them.”

And later on that same month, Crenshaw slammed Sanders by linking to a poll showing an overwhelming majority of Americans disagree with his stance on prisoners’ voting rights.

“Imagine that,” Crenshaw quipped in the caption to a tweet containing a link to an INSIDER poll on Americans’ attitudes toward prisoners’ voting rights.
