14-year-old and 16-year-old in custody after firing shots at Chicago officers, police say

A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were taken into custody after firing shots at Chicago police officers Sunday night on the West Side, according to police.

Officers responded to a call of a person with a gun at 7:15 p.m. in the 800 block of North Waller Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood, according to preliminary information from police. When police arrived, a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy began running into an alley and fired shots at the officers, authorities said.

The officers did not return fire and were not injured, police said. The two teenagers were taken into custody and charges are pending.

Two weapons were recovered, police said. It was not immediately known what kind of weapons were recovered or how many shots were fired at the officers.
