She was loading groceries in her car at Publix. He approached her with a knife, cops say

A shopper was loading her groceries into her car in the parking lot of a Marathon Publix when a man wearing a dark mask approached her with a folding knife, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 69-year-old woman told a deputy that the man kept demanding money. When she screamed, he ran.

The incident happened at abut 11:45 a.m. Thursday outside the store at 5407 Overseas Hwy.

According to the sheriff’s office, the woman told Deputy Michael Onsgard, Detective Rosary Ponce and Sgt. Joel Slough that the man was “wearing a dark T-shirt, dark pants and a dark handkerchief-style mask.”

The woman was not injured and did not have any money or items taken from her.

Deputies formed a perimeter within minutes of the incident, but were not able to locate the man.

As of Saturday, no arrests had been made.
