Woman who married father pleads guilty to murdering boyfriend

WELCH, W.Va. (WVNS) — A sentencing hearing was held for Amanda McClure in McDowell County on Thursday morning, Oct. 1. She pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of John Thomas McGuire.

According to prosecuting attorney Emily Miller, McClure will serve 40 years in prison. Her father Larry McClure was previously sentenced to life in prison without mercy. Larry McClure admitted to first-degree murder in the February 2019 death of John McGuire.

A third person, Anna Choudhary, is also facing charges in the case. Prosecutor Miller said a status hearing is being held for her on Thursday afternoon. Choudhary is Larry’s second daughter.

Amanda McClure and her father Larry McClure killed her boyfriend John McGuire by hitting him in the head, injecting him with methamphetamine, and strangling him, WOAY reports. After they murdered the boyfriend, McClure and her biological father had sex, and four weeks later married each other, WOAY reports.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports McGuire’s remains were discovered Sept. 24, 2019, in a grave at a Skygusty residence in McDowell County.

Days before the murder, Larry McClure drove to Indiana with Anna Choudhary to pick up Amanda and John McGuire who were “dope sick,” Judge Kornish said during Larry McClure’s sentencing hearing. The group then traveled back to Skygusty where Larry McClure was staying after his release from prison on sex offense charges.

After about 10 days, a plot was hatched by the father and daughters to murder McGuire, according to previous court testimony. During his sentencing hearing, Larry McClure testified McGuire was struck in the head with a wine bottle, tied up, injected with liquid methamphetamine and later strangled.

“A black garbage bag was wrapped around his head by Amanda,” Larry McClure said. “Anna strangled him … I held him,” the Daily Telegraph reports.

McClure said the torture began on Thursday, Feb. 14, and lasted through Saturday. “It was two to three days of hell,” Larry McClure said. “Later that morning we buried him in a two-foot grave behind the house.”

“How much time before you dug him up?” Kornish asked the defendant.

“About six days,” McGuire responded.

Three and a half weeks after the murder of McGuire, Larry and Amanda McClure traveled across the state line to neighboring Tazewell County, Va., where they married, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports.
