3 men wanted in death of 7-year-old girl in Portsmouth

A 7-year-old girl died Christmas Even, two days after she was shot in Portsmouth.

Now, detectives are trying to locate there men they believe killed her.

Portsmouth police said in a news release they were looking for Trevon Dionte Avery, Antonyo Jamal Taylor and Avery Laquin Setzer. Police did not say in the release how old the men were or where they’re from. The men are all wanted on first-degree murder and malicious wounding charges.

Mylani L. Everette, 7, and a 28-year-old man were shot Tuesday near the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Truxton Avenue.

Police were called for shots fired in the area around 2:25 p.m. A little while later they received reports that two gunshot victims had walked into a local hospital with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

Police said Mylani died from her injuries in the hospital two days later. They did not provide an update on the man’s condition.

The police investigation found the victims were in two separate vehicles when several shots were fired at them from a third car.

Detectives have not provided information about the motive for the shooting.
