More arrests made in wild Walmart brawl

More arrests have been made in conjunction with a violent brawl that took place in the checkout line of a Walmart in Ascension Parish earlier this week.

The Gonzales Police Department reported that two other alleged participants in the fight have been taken into custody. GPD says that five of the seven suspects have now been arrested for the altercation that took place Monday.

Charges filed include criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace and simple battery.

In new video that was obtained two days after the fight, a group of women can be seen entering the retail outlet and suddenly attacking an unsuspecting store employee working a register. Following the initial provocation, multiple bystanders became entangled in the melee.

The brawl that ensued was captured on video. As for what started it, Capt. Steven Nethkin of the GPD told WBRZ that it had its roots in social media.

“It appears that all this may have originated over some ‘beefing’ that was occurring between the females over social media,” Nethkin said.

As some of those involved are juveniles, GPD has not released names of the suspects.
