Looks like there might be some bright days ahead for QB Colin Kaepernick who has been inactive since 2017. The 2011 second-round pick has been given a second chance by the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason.
Kaepernick’s training with the Raiders has been going well and the former 49ers quarterback has been showing some insane arm strength but nothing is guaranteed as of yet. The Raiders have a great QB in Derek Carr and it makes no sense for them to take a second look at Kaepernick if it’s not for a backup role.
Nick Adams demands the NFL not let Colin Kaepernick back into the league
Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem
On Sunday, June 5, conservative political commentator and author Nick Adams wrote a rather controversial tweet about former QB Colin Kaepernick that turned a lot of heads. Adams tweeted: “If the NFL brings Colin Kaepernick back I will not be watching. I refuse to watch the Flag and National Anthem denigrated.”
Adams’s tweet dates back to 2016 when Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem. During the 49ers’ third pre-season game in 2016, Kaepernick decided to kneel rather than stand which is customary as a protest against police brutality and racial injustice in the country. Kaepernick continued to kneel during the rest of the season. This act received polarizing reactions. While some commended the QB’s stand against major social issues others felt he was disrespecting the flag. This issue gained more popularity when then-President Donald Trump said that NFL owners should “fire” players who protest during the national anthem. Following the season, Kaepernick became a free agent and has been unsigned ever since.
In November 2017, Kaepernick filed a lawsuit against the NFL and its owners that they were trying to keep him out of the league. The QB withdrew his complaint after two years when he reached a confidential settlement with the NFL. Colin’s actions were highlighted once again after the devastating death of Geroge Floyd due to police brutality. Nick Adams’s tweet might be a little harsh as the QB was only trying to show his support for a growing national issue. If any of the high-profile QB had kneeled whilst the national anthem then he would’ve been appreciated rather than forced out by the league.
