Controversial transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who was a swimmer from the University of Pennsylvania recently gave an interview on Good Morning America and spoke about her last season, winning at the NCAA Championships and how her transition allowed her to be truly happy. While it may have been incredible for Thomas, it certainly was terrible for her teammates, with several of her teammates speaking up against her. The interview also raised criticism from other people, such as Caitlyn Jenner, who is an outspoken trans activist.
In an exclusive interview, one of her teammates decided to speak out against Thomas. “You can tell he is mentally ill,” she said. “I saw the video and was so disgusted”. She clarified that Thomas was not grounded in reality and instead is so consumed with his own life and acknowledges any damage he inflicted upon his real female teammates.
She mentioned the damage caused by Thomas to female sports and the opportunities he took away from the real female swimmers, both the UPenn’s team and the NCAA. She said that Lia’s experience was alone and many suffered so that he could benefit. “Lia identified as a woman, but she is not a female,” she said. “That is a fact. It doesn’t matter how you feel”.
When asked about the question of fairness, Lia said, “Well I’m happy. Lia completely ignored the question, dodged the question,” the swimmer said. “If you want to talk about happiness, what about everyone’s happiness? What about mine? What about my teammates?”. She also mentioned the damage that Lia did to the female competitors in swimming championships.
“What about the swimmers who Lia bumped out of the medals at the NCAA championships? What about the girl who finished 9th and finals? That girl who finished 17th?” she said. “The girl who finished second to Lia? What about their happiness? What about all their work?. And to say, ‘Oh, well, I am happy’ is just so narcissistic. And to not even acknowledge how other girls might feel, it’s selfish and disgusting”.
