Virginia mother who lost custody arrested after her 2-year-old child found dead

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (TCD) — A 38-year-old mother was arrested after her 2-year-old child was found dead in a hotel room.

According to WAVY-TV, on Monday, Aug. 1, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the child was found dead at a hotel in the 3600 block of Atlantic Avenue. Its mother was also reportedly found suffering from a medical emergency, and she was transported to the hospital.

The mother, Leandra Andrade, left Washington, D.C., after a custody case last week, WTKR-TV reports. The child’s father was reportedly awarded full custody. Police told WAVY there were no previous signs that Andrade was going to hurt the child.

One of Andrade’s friends reportedly contacted authorities after they saw concerning posts from her on social media.

Andrade was arrested and booked into Virginia Beach Jail for child abuse/neglect, causing serious injury, records show. She remains held without bond.

Details on the child’s cause of death have not yet been released.
