GONZALES, La. (TCD) — Fifty-one-year-old rapper Mystikal was arrested and booked on several criminal charges after he allegedly choked a woman and then raped her.
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, July 30, at approximately 11:58 p.m., deputies responded to a call at a local hospital about a patient who was allegedly the victim of a sexual assault and suffered “minor injuries during the attack.” Deputies identified Mystikal, whose birth name is Michael Tyler, as the suspect and took him into custody.
Ascension Parish Jail records show he is being held on 10 charges, including first-degree rape, simply robbery, domestic abuse, false imprisonment, and several drug offenses. He was ordered to be held without bond.
The Advocate reports the woman went to Tyler’s home Saturday evening because he allegedly claimed she stole money from him and he wanted it back. When she got to his home in Prairieville, he allegedly beat her, choked her, pulled her hair, poured rubbing alcohol on her in order to get rid of “bad spirits,” and then raped her. Investigators reportedly discovered some of the victim’s hair braids in his home.
This isn’t the first time the “Shake Ya A–” rapper has been charged with rape. According to KTAL/KMSS-TV, prosecutors dropped rape charges against him in 2020 for an assault that allegedly occurred in 2017. The Advocate reports he was also in jail from 2003 until 2010 for a sexual assault conviction.
