Detroit police looking for carjacking suspect who snuck into woman’s back seat while she was in gas station, held her at gunpoint

DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are asking for help identifying a man who stole a woman’s car at gunpoint at a gas station on the city’s east side early Tuesday morning.

Police officials say it all unfolded shortly after 5 a.m. at a Mobil gas station in the 17000 block of Harper Avenue.

A woman was in the gas station when a suspect got in the back seat of her car at the pump and waited for her.

When she returned to her car, police say the suspect held her at gunpoint and stole the vehicle. Authorities have not disclosed the make, model or license plate of the vehicle, but it appears to be a white SUV.

Police released a video showing the young man getting into the car, along with a still photo of his face inside the gas station.Anyone who may recognize the suspect or knows something about the carjacking is asked to call the Police Department at 313-596-2555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
