MIAMI, FLORIDA: A Florida family plans to pursue criminal charges against the attackers of a nine-year-old girl who was mercilessly beaten aboard a school bus by two boys on Wednesday, February 1. Video footage that was released on social media showed the nine-year-old girl lying on her stomach while a teenager stands over her delivering blows and repeatedly and viciously beating the third grader at Coconut Palm K-8 Academy in Homestead as she desperately tries to defend herself. During the almost 30-second attack, which a student videotaped, no adults stepped in to stop it.
She was left with scratches and bruises, and her parents are now left wondering why this happened. “This kid is just beating my daughter senseless for no reason. She can’t defend herself,” the children’s father told 7 News. “She’s a little girl. How is this acceptable? At the same time that my daughter was getting beaten, the same thing was happening to my son on the other side of the bus,” the father added. According to the victim’s mother, who spoke to Local 10, she will seek criminal charges against the attackers of her kid.
‘Bullying must stop!’ Tormented girl’s father vented out anger on Facebook
The victim’s mother informed that the school’s authorities were overburdened by the increasing violence occurring both inside and outside the building. Their answer was to suggest that she enroll her three children in another school. The distraught mother said that throughout their brief time at the school, her two older children had also been tormented. Nevertheless, counselors and officials did little to address her complaints, she revealed.
“Ever since then, I’ve been to the school, and I’ve spoken with counselors, principals, assistant principals,” said the children’s mother. “An assistant principal wrote us, and she said, ‘Oh, I think it’s time you take your kids out of the school,’ and our kids aren’t the problem,” said the children’s father. “They love to learn, and it’s just so sad that something that they enjoy is becoming something they’re fearing now,” said the mother.
The girl’s father vented on social media and intended to start protests in front of the school. “I want to set up a rally and confront the school head-on,” he wrote on Facebook. He added, “The lack of security is unreal, and the lack of security on the bus is ridiculous… The bullying must stop!!!”
Offenders had been taken into custody
The Miami-Dade Schools Police announced in a statement that the offenders had been taken into custody, but their age wasn’t released. “The safety and wellbeing of our students is of the utmost importance,” it read. The statement added, “This school district goes to great lengths to promote the values of restraint and respect as well as using social media responsibly. We ask that parents reinforce these principles at home.” Further, according to the parents of the children, they might homeschool them for the time being in order to keep them safe.
