70% of Americans want stricter control of the border

According to a new poll, a majority of Americans believe the border policy under President Joe Biden’s administration are too lax.

The survey, conducted by Harvard-Harris from May 17-18, reported that from September 2021 to September 2022, over 2.75 million migrants crossed illegally into the U.S.

It added that in the ensuing months since last September, another 1.2 million have made their way into the country illegally.

The poll then asked whether current policies should remain in place or if new, stricter policies should be initiated to further limit illegal immigration.

Of those who responded, 68% believe America’s border policy should be stricter.

Conversely, U.S. Homeland Security reported on Friday that migrant encounters at the nation’s southern border were actually down drastically since one key policy change: the expiration of the Title 42 restrictions.

DHS official Blas Nunez-Neto said Friday that encounters were down to about 3,000 per day, a drop of about 70%, since the restrictions ended in early May.
