Mesquite substitute teacher accused of allowing middle school students to fight in class is indicted

The substitute teacher who was accused of allowing a so-called ‘fight club’ to happen at a Mesquite ISD middle school has been hit with four felony indicements.

Reports show 24-year-old Natally Garcia has been charged with four counts of endangering children for the fight that happened at the Kimbrough Middle School in April.

Officials say that students in the classroom where Garcia was in charge got into an argument. Rather that breaking it up, polcie say Garcia had students move desks and start fighting. One fight was between two girls and another one between two boys. It wasn’t supposed to be recorded, but it was.

One 13-year-old girl’s camera was rolling as the teacher said “I do not want this on record” and threatened to confiscate phones. The teacher, the school district confirmed to NBC 5, even “outlined rules for the students to follow and even instructed a student to monitor the classroom door while the fights took place.”

Garcia was arrested after the video surfaced showing the incident on April 12th.

“Her actions are appalling and intolerable,” said the Mesquite ISD in a statement released at the time it was discovered in April. “We share the disgust that the families of students in this class must feel.”
