Gun-toting pregnant woman, her husband turn the tables on armed felon who attacked, threatened them: ‘I’ve never been happier to be a gun carrier’

A gun-toting pregnant woman and her husband turned the tables on an armed felon who attacked and threatened them in front of a Houston gas station store Tuesday evening.

What are the details?
The woman — who’s nine months pregnant — told KTRK-TV she parked in front of the All Season Food Store just before 5:30 p.m. to deliver a meal for her husband who works there.

The couple asked the station to conceal their identities for the story and interview due to safety concerns.

Two armed men were in a silver SUV parked nearby, the station added.

“I got out of my car, and immediately the guy in the passenger seat of the silver car got out with an AR and told me that I startled him,” the woman told KTRK.

The woman’s husband came outside after she called him, the station said, and the man with the rifle got into the driver’s seat of a green Dodge Challenger parked next to the SUV.

Then the SUV driver began to cause trouble, KTRK noted.

The husband told the station that the SUV driver — now identified by police as 39-year-old Mario Duque — repeatedly asked him, “Do you want to die tonight?”

Surveillance video shows the couple ignoring Duque, who pointed a gun at them multiple times, KTRK reported, adding that Duque also approached the husband and pistol-whipped him.

Oh, how the tables turned…
With that, the woman pulled a gun from her bag and shot Duque, and her husband shot him, too, the station said.

“Thank God we had our guns,” the woman told KTRK. “I’ve never been happier to be a gun carrier.”

Video also shows the woman holding Duque at gunpoint until help arrived, the station said.

“A bystander told him, ‘Hey man, if you think you’re dying, you might as well pray to God for forgiveness,'” the husband added to KTRK.

More from the station:

Duque, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, remained hospitalized Wednesday. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

HPD said a second suspect was also involved but remains on the loose.

The woman was adamant to KTRK that nothing was going to happen before her due date: “No, they were not taking out my baby daddy before July 11.”
