Former South Carolina Gov. and 2024 GOP hopeful Nikki Haley criticized an “ungrateful” Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) on Wednesday after the liberal congresswoman insulted the Declaration of Independence.
“The Declaration of Independence was written by enslavers and didn’t recognize Black people as human,” Bush tweeted Tuesday. “Today is a great day to demand Reparations Now.”
Haley responded to the congresswoman with a message and lesson about “freedom.”
“My husband and his unit are deployed right now defending the greatest country on Earth and protecting every American’s freedom … including this ungrateful congresswoman’s right to hate on America,” Haley tweeted.
Her sentiment was echoed on the platform, and Bush’s initial post received criticism.
“You are a Communist grifter, @CoriBush,” one user tweeted.
“While the Declaration of Independence is a gift to humanity seeking freedom, the Communist Manifesto is a guarantee for enslavement. The Reparation you will get under Communism is the plantation called Gulag.”
“Hey sis, some of us don’t need or want a handout to be successful,” another user commented.
“Oh my god. You were never a slave,” one post read.
“You live in the greatest and freest country in the world, and you’re an elected member of the United States Congress. No one is oppressing you. You have a huge amount of privilege. A little gratitude to your country for one day couldn’t hurt.”
