Chicago mayor discovers a “humanitarian crisis” and plans a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border

Mayor Brandon Johnson has been smacked by reality. He is aware of the Biden border crisis now because illegal aliens are taking him up on his claim that Chicago is a sanctuary city and welcomes everyone, regardless of legal status. Johnson now says there is a humanitarian crisis at the southern border. Do tell, Mr. Mayor.

It’s funny how political rhetoric changes when illegal aliens arrive in sanctuary cities and expect everything to be available to them. They need shelter, food, clothing, medical care, and education for their children. All of this falls on the city to fund. It doesn’t take long for mayors to start holding press conferences and declaring a dire need for increased federal funding. The Biden administration is slow to acknowledge such claims and often simply ignores the mayors.

Mayor Johnson is doing what most Democrats will not do – he is promising to take a trip to the border and see the situation for himself. The catch is that he won’t give a timeline as to when he might make that trip. But, he is on record promising his angry constituents that he will go. About 15,000 illegal aliens have arrived in Chicago. No, not all of them have come from Texas but many of the buses have.

Nearly 30 bus-loads of immigrants arrived in Chicago just last week – and that number is only set to get worse.

Johnson, 47, said as many as 22 busloads of migrants could be arriving daily – as several have been seen sleeping on the city streets.

Johnson extended the welcome mat and illegal aliens want to take him up on that offer of hospitality, no questions asked.

A team from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) arrived in Chicago on Thursday to assess the city’s situation. The mayor said he has been concerned about the arrival of illegal aliens since he became mayor last May. He is not happy with the Biden administration’s response to his concerns. Illegal aliens are being housed in police stations, schools, and the airports.

He said: ‘This is a growing crisis, not only for the city of Chicago but for the entire globe.

‘The population shift that we are experiencing as the result of the failure of federal policies is now impacting the people of Chicago in a very dramatic way,’ he said.

Federal policies, indeed. Joe Biden intentionally created the border crisis and Mayor Johnson is correct when he says it is a humanitarian crisis. It is also a national security crisis. Joe Biden doesn’t care.

Johnson acknowledged the thousands of illegal immigrants who cross into the United States before they turn themselves in for Border Patrol agents to process them and release them to shelters. He explained to reporters that the illegals are bussed from cities such as Eagle Pass, Texas and El Paso because the mayors of those cities have to ease the overcrowding of shelters. They are being bussed to sanctuary cities. Those cities asked for it, right?

Welcome to the party, pal.

Johnson said that shelters are going up as quickly as possible. He did what other Democrats do and blamed Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, for his woes. He said that Abbott created the problem he is now charged with cleaning up.

‘Based upon our interactions thus far. It is becoming increasingly clear that those who want to disrupt our democracy are committed to doing that,’ he said of Abbot and other lawmakers in the Lone Star State. ‘It’s a real mission of theirs.’

He added: ‘And so our hope is that we will continue to get more resources and a stronger commitment from the federal government to be able to provide us with the support that the people of Chicago need.’

What malarkey. You know who is “disrupting our democracy”? Joe Biden. Biden welcomed the flood of illegal immigrants as he campaigned for president. He has destroyed American sovereignty with open borders. Good luck, Mr. Mayor, with getting the federal aid needed to provides services for the new residents of Chicago.

He, ironically, said he didn’t know when he would make the trip but has to balance the trip with governing the city and “making sure that my wife and children are secure as well.’ What about the people in border communities? They would like their families to be secure, too.

{snip}

Going to the border is to make sure that everybody knows that my administration is committed to making sure that we are putting together the full force of government at every single level to ensure that these families, who, by the way, they’re not illegal – they’re asylum-seekers – are protected by international law,’ he said.

The mayor is wrong. The immigrants are illegal. Their reason for the asylum claims is to be allowed to find employment and better financial security. That is not a reason for asylum, according to current immigration laws. They should be expelled at the border and yet they are allowed to remain in America. There is no reason why they shouldn’t go to Chicago.
