John Barrasso says ‘free money’ enticing illegal immigrants will come to ‘screeching halt’ under Trump

“We need a better border president, we don’t have that now,” Barrasso said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “We have a president that allowed nine million illegal immigrants into the country. He said he needs more laws. He doesn’t need more laws. He needs to stop abusing the laws. President Trump and Republicans understand that.”

Barrasso also criticized President Joe Biden for his apology for referring to the main suspect of Laken Riley’s murder as an “illegal” immigrant, with the president admitting he should have said “undocumented.” The senator stated that the suspect, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was indeed in the U.S. illegally and was in the U.S. “under Biden’s policies.”

“You put the Republicans in charge, and what we’re going to get is we’re going to be able to defund the things that the Democrats have been doing,” Barrasso said. “The flights into the United States, the things that’s enticing illegal immigrants to come here. It’s the free food, the free hotels, the free money. That’s all going to come to a screeching halt if we have Donald Trump, Republican majority in the Senate, and a Republican majority in the House.”

The subject of Biden’s reversal on referring to Riley’s murder suspect as an “illegal” has drawn sharp criticism from many in the Republican Party, with House Speaker Mike Johnson suggesting that the president was “cowering to his base.” Johnson added that Biden ought to issue an apology to Riley’s parents.

Immigration is expected to play a major topic in the upcoming presidential election, which many believe will be a rematch between Trump and Biden. Both candidates have secured enough delegates to win the nominations of their respective parties.
