Newell: We now have more illegal immigrants in the US than the total population of 3 states: what’s next?

The $1.2 trillion spending deal passed to keep the government operating, but two GOP-proposed amendments were voted down: one that would have prevented the counting of illegal immigrants in the census and another that that would have stopped the U.S. from flying in illegal immigrants.

“The Democrats are now pushing open borders for Haiti, for all Haitians to be able to come into this country,” WWL’s Newell Normand said, which would make Haiti’s problems become our problems.

To win over support from Republicans for the spending bill, House Speaker Mike Johnson touted there will be 8,000 more detention beds for migrants awaiting their immigration proceedings or removal from the country. That’s about a 24% increase from current levels. Also, GOP leadership secured money to hire about 2,000 Border Patrol agents.

The AP noted that “Democrats, meanwhile, are boasting of a $1 billion increase for Head Start programs and new child care centers for military families. They also played up a $120 million increase in funding for cancer research and a $100 million increase for Alzheimer’s research.”

But what about the border?

“And no one is criticizing the Biden administration,” Normand said.

The $1.2 trillion spending bill signed into law Saturday officially keeps federal agencies funded until October.
