Fears US is prepping for WW3 as Joe Biden orders ‘doomsday’ planes able to ‘survive nuclear fallout’

A Colorado company has won the bid to build new ‘doomsday’ planes for President Biden and his administration, as the previous Boeing ones are out of date – the new contact has sparked fresh WW3 fears

President Joe Biden’s administration recently put in an order for ‘doomsday’ planes that can withstand ‘nuclear fallout and electromagnetic pulses’ – sparking new fears of a World War Three.

A $13billion (£10billion) contract will see Colorado company Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) deliver replacements for the E-4B Nightwatch, an airborne command centre for the US President that can survive a nuclear war. The US Air Force says the aircraft would be used in times of destruction by an enemy of ground command and control centres.

These planes are fitted with state-of-the-art communication systems, secure data connections, and other high-tech features that enable leaders to retain command and control capabilities even if ground-based command centres are incapacitated or annihilated.

SNC said on Sunday (28 April): “SNC is building the airborne command centre of the future! SAOC is a highly specialised aircraft that ensures continued critical command, control and communication during national emergencies for POTUS, SECDEF and CJCS. We’re honoured to support this important mission.”

The US Department of Defense announced Friday that SNC was awarded the contract for the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC). They added that work will be performed in Englewood, Colorado; Sparks, Nevada; Beavercreek, Ohio; and Vandalia, Ohio, and is expected to be completed by July 10, 2036.

The Air Force said in the FY2024 budget request that SAOC will provide “a worldwide, survivable, and enduring node of the National Military Command System (NMCS) to fulfil national security requirements throughout all stages of conflict.”

“SAOC will fulfil the requirements of the AF Nuclear Mission by providing Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) capabilities to enable the exercise of authority and direction by the President to command and control US military nuclear weapons operations.”

The E-4 series have previously been specially modified Boeing 747-200B aircraft, however, Boeing confirmed in December 2023 it was no longer competing for the SAOC contract. SNC has not revealed what airframe they will use for their doomsday planes.
