The dad of four said his wife was born in Iran and came to the US as a refugee when she was just three years old. However, her green card was revoked around 15 years ago due to a theft conviction.
Arthur said it was for “misdemeanor stuff,” but they’ve been going through the legal process to attempt to regain her citizenship ever since. “She just went in [for an immigration check-in] in April,” Arthur recalled. “They said you’re fine. Have a good day. See you back in September or October.”

But the situation changed last month when the US bombed three nuclear sites in Iran. The attack sparked increasing tensions and concerns that Iranian sleeper cells could retaliate from within the US.

Arthur revealed he agrees with the vetting of Iranian nationals due to sleeper cell concerns. He said: “I think it will resolve a lot of issues because we’ll know exactly who’s in here for what reasons, even though I miss [my wife] dearly. I think we could have a faster process [where they determine] she’s not a radical, or tied to the crazies, let her out.”
He said he and his family are proud Trump supporters, but admits his opinion has shifted slightly. “Somewhat it has just because I’m going through it,” Arthur said. “I was very selfish before, but what I see now is there’s a reason for [this immigration enforcement].”
In a tearful phone call to her family, Arpineh said she was unsure what would happen with her immigration status as she revealed she is on the list to be transferred to a different detention facility.

In a statement regarding Arpineh’s detention, the Department of Homeland Security said: “On June 30, ICE arrested Arpineh Kamal Masihi, a criminal illegal alien from Iran. She was convicted of burglary and sentenced to two years in prison in 2008. Following her criminal conviction, she was placed into immigration proceedings.
“A judge issued her a final order of removal on June 24, 2009. She had more than 15 years to self-deport and leave the U.S. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, if you break the law, you will face the consequences. Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S.”
