ICE reports that Ignot-Osto was encountered four times by U.S. Border Patrol in 2005, voluntarily returning to Mexico each time. He is believed to have entered the country illegally for at least the fifth time prior to his first criminal conviction in the U.S. in 2010.

His most recent and serious conviction stems from charges filed on April 15, 2025, in the state of Illinois, which included abduction, kidnapping a child, and two counts of enticement of a child for indecent purposes. On September 18, he was found guilty of child abduction/luring a child under 17 and was sentenced to one year in prison.

ICE Assistant Director for Public Affairs, Emily Covington, issued a strong statement regarding the arrest and the city’s sanctuary policies.

“This is who ICE is arresting in Chicago, a criminal alien that repeatedly entered the U.S. illegally and went to commit heinous crimes against a child,” said Covington.
