Hamilton County inmate attempts to escape during transport by biting deputy’s hand, officials say

An inmate attempted to escape from a corrections deputy during transport on Tuesday.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Delrico Oliver, 28, of Cincinnati, was being transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center after receiving treatment at University Hospital on Tuesday. Oliver was able to free himself and flee from the sheriff’s vehicle in the 2500 block of Reading Road on Thursday.

The corrections deputy chased Oliver on foot before catching him behind the Clifton Mini Mart. Oliver bit the deputy on the hand while the deputy attempted to apprehend him, the Sheriff’s Office said. The deputy also sustained a head laceration before taking Oliver into custody.

The deputy was treated at University Hospital and has since been released.

Oliver was returned to the Hamilton County Justice Center were he faces additional charges.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.
