Indianapolis police have made an arrest in connection to the fatal shooting of a mail carrier.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Genae Cook confirmed an arrest was made. Cook said information about the suspect and the nature of the arrest should be released within the next 24 hours.
Summers, 45, was shot Monday afternoon as she delivered mail in a neighborhood near East Michigan Street and North Sherman Drive, police said.
The shooting was reported around 4 p.m. in the 400 block of North Denny Street. She died later at an area hospital.
Summers joined the United States Postal Service in June 2018 and soon was named a steward for the local union.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is leading and IMPD is assisting with the homicide investigation. The Postal Inspection Service on Tuesday offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Neither agency released additional details on the shooting at this time.
