Though the GOP pushes a pro-life agenda in their party’s platform, that doesn’t mean the RINOs in their midst don’t wreak havoc at first chance. The recently drafted Senate bill for the AHCA features a provision to defund abortion conglomerate Planned Parenthood, but two Republicans have introduced an amendment to strike it down.
LifeNews reports that “Senate Republicans have delayed a vote on the health-care bill until after Independence Day because they do not have enough votes to reach the 50 vote margin needed to pass it.” This problem stems from “two pro-abortion Republicans refuse to support the bill because it has provisions that would revoke taxpayer funding for the nation’s biggest abortion company, Planned Parenthood.”
The two RINOs in question are Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and Maine Senator Susan Collins, who plan to remove the defunding provision from the legislation. Pro-lifers are fighting back.
Murkowski and Collins’ amendment suggests they do not expect Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to drop the provision from a rewritten bill that could be released at the end of this week.
Murkowski’s spokeswoman Karina Petersen said in an email that Murkowski “has been saying that she’s concerned the bill bars Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid reimbursements for one year and plans on introducing an amendment to strip that provision out.”
Whether Murkowski or Collins will ultimately support the Senate bill in the coming weeks remains unknown. Murkowski said Tuesday she is still undecided on the bill and is continuing to gather information on exactly how its provisions would affect Alaskans.
The vote will not take place until after the July 4th holiday.
Senate leaders have announced the Senate will not vote on the proposed health care bill until after next week’s July 4th holiday to shore up the votes. President Donald Trump has invited every Republican member of the Senate to the White House at 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon for a meeting. Paul said that he met with Trump and that the president was “open” to improving the bill.
With 52 Republican votes GOP lawmakers can withstand to defections against the legislation but to pass the Planned Parenthood defunding bill they need at least 50 votes so pro-life Vice President Mike Pence can break a tie and approve the legislation.
This holdout from the two RINOs comes after Planned Parenthood’s lies have made known to the public. They claim abortion represents only a fraction of their services, they desperately need federal funds, and that they never trafficked in fetal organs. Liars, all of them.
