Apprehensions of illegal immigrants at the U.S. southern border rose to their highest levels since 2006, according to a review of federal data by the Washington Post.
More than 171,000 illegal immigrants were taken into custody by border officials, the Post claimed, citing its review of the data. That’s “the highest monthly total since 2006,” and up from over 78,000 in January, the paper said.
Notably, the U.S. has seen a surge in unaccompanied minor crossings, having taken in more than 18,000 in March, according to the Post. That’s up 99% from February.
