If you were the sort of person who’d attempt to hold up a convenience store with a gun, presumably you’d be pretty confident of the whole thing going without a hitch, right? You wouldn’t imagine you’d be taken out by, say, a guy wearing a cowboy hat. Well… watch the clip below:
The clip, which first surfaced in 2018, shows CCTV footage of a man bursting into a convenience store waving around a revolver. He directs it at the shop attendant, who is – completely understandably – terrified.
Tell you what, the cowboy isn’t.
He even has time to coolly remove his sunglasses for effect, before laying into the wannabe robber. He springs into action, with the gunman pointing the weapon at him for a minute.
This is when the criminal makes his fatal error.
He turns away to further threaten the rest of the people in the shop, which is all the opportunity that the brave cowboy needs.
Boy, does he pay for his mistake. The cowboy – complete with hat and denim jacket – slams the gun out of his hand and rushes him.
At this point, the robber decides this isn’t going as he’d planned, and tries to cut his losses. He doesn’t get far.
The cowboy grips him and puts him into a chokehold. The two shop workers bravely join in the fight at this point, and one of them gets hold of the gun, rendering it useless.
At this point, the criminal turns the tables again, producing a large kitchen knife. This doesn’t stop the brave cowboy, mind.
He moves in again and manages to get him under control pretty easily. That’s all the fight that the robber had left in him. The footage ends with one of the shop’s employees calling the coppers while the other guys hold him down.
A similar (albeit less dramatic) incident also took place in the UK.
Footage emerged showing the moment a Nottingham shop worker confronted an attempted robber holding what looked like a shotgun and drove him from the premises armed only with a magazine.
The man, later named in court as Ian Watson, brought a fake shotgun along to the incident in Nottingham, in the hope that it would intimidate the shopkeeper into giving him what he wanted.
He didn’t count on running into this shopkeeper.
Rushing out from one of the aisles, armed to the teeth with literature, the shopkeeper – who has not been named – started whacking the would-be thief with the magazine.
Watson seemed pretty taken aback by this and resorted to hitting the shop worker around the head with the ‘shotgun’. It looks like it hurt, but he wasn’t perturbed. He drove Watson back and out of the door, where he eventually fled.
