YOU might notice something missing from your Facebook profile next month.
The tech giant is removing four small but arguably significant pieces of information – and it’s not going down well with everyone.
Meta, which owns Facebook, has began notifying billions of users that it is withdrawing the religious views, political views, interested in and address parts.
These are found tucked away on the about page of your profile.
Facebook says the four fields will disappear on December 1.
An alert sent to users warns: “Starting December 1, 2022 the following info you shared on your profile in About > Contact and basic info will be removed.
“Your other information will remain on your profile, along with the rest of your contact and basic info.”
It’s not clear why Facebook is removing these options.
But some people have not taken the news well.
“Has anyone else got this notification from their Facebook profile?” one wrote on Twitter.
“Why? Because people are offended at one another’s opposing views or religion?”
Another added: “Facebook looks to be restricting religion views.”
Others were less sure about the move.
“Facebook is removing bio info on accounts that include political views, religious views and whether you’re interested in men or women,” a user commented.
“Is this an improvement? Are they trying to lure people back?”
A fourth person said: “sooooooo facebook doesn’t want to spur ideological divides and extremism… so they’re scrapping “interested in”, political & religious views.
“seems like a bandaid for a serious wound.”
Facebook has not said why it is making the change.
