Illinois students record racist Snapchat video: ‘Bring back slavery’

One woman lost her job at a senior citizen facility for making a Snapchat video with a friend calling for the return of slavery.

Video of the women in Illinois, one allegedly named Macy Castleman, was revealed by a Facebook user in Springfield. “I love how people sit around & act like racism isn’t still a thing,” wrote Gabbi Goldsborough in her post. “Macy Castleman…u have a lot of explaining to do…”

The women chant in unison, “We hate n******” with one saying, “Bring back the KKK.”

Her friend shushes and says, “Some people like black people sometimes.”

Goldsborough posted screenshots of an alleged chat with Castleman, who wrote, “That was like, three years ago, and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t remember that at all.” She adds, “I have black people in my family. Clearly don’t feel that way…so you can chill. Also, it was an inside joke with my best friend. But feel however you want about it.”

But Goldsborough wrote in her caption, “You can say it’s an inside joke. Or think it’s funny. But it’s not. The video was posted 11 hours ago so 3 years ago my a**…”

The video was shot in Farmersville by Snapchat user Sam Stieren (who did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s interview request). According to the timestamp, it was shot on August 9th, however as Heavy suggests, the footage could be old and uploaded to Snapchat recently. Goldsborough did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.

According to Heavy, one of the women reportedly attends Auburn High School in Illinois. Neither the school nor district officials responded to Yahoo Lifestyle’s outreach, however a note on the website of Auburn Community Unit School District #10, stated that officials learned of the “heinous statements” on Saturday.

“Administration immediately commenced a thorough investigation,” read the post. “This process was made more difficult than usual because we were made aware of the video on a Saturday afternoon while school is still on summer break. The District has determined the video is from October of 2017, and the individual making the racially charged comments is no longer a student in our District.”

However, the post did not mention the status of the other student who also said, “We hate n******” and laughed along with her friend.

</div><p>According to <a href=”https://heavy.com/news/2019/08/macy-castleman-jayde-landers/amp/?__twitter_impression=true”>Heavy</a>, Castleman is a former student at Springfield’s <a href=”https://www.llcc.edu/”>Lincoln Land Community College</a>, the president of which shared a Facebook message about the video. “In light of a situation brought to the attention of the college administration, I would like to assure our community that Lincoln Land Community College is committed to maintaining a learning and working environment that is free from all forms of harassment and discrimination,” wrote President Dr. Charlotte Warren on Sunday. “LLCC values diversity. We respect and celebrate the differences among people, cultures and ideas. We recognize the inherent dignity and worth of everyone throughout the college community. We promote a safe and inclusive environment for all.”</p><p>Warren added, “…If this situation involved a current student at LLCC, then it would be investigated and adjudicated per the policies and procedures of the College.”</p><p>A college spokesperson, who did not mention Castleman by name, tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “The individual you mention is not a currently enrolled student at Lincoln Land Community College” adding that she “left LLCC before the video emerged.”</p><p>One of the women worked at Concordia Village, a senior living community in Springfield. The company shared two Facebook posts on the matter, writing, “We have addressed the situation with the employee according to our personnel policies and that individual is no longer employed by Concordia Village or Lutheran Senior Services.”</p><p>Yahoo Lifestyle could not reach either of the women for comment and their social media accounts have seemingly been taken down.</p><div><iframe src=”https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLSSConcordiaVillage%2Fposts%2F2316909098389685&amp;width=500″ width=”500″ height=”279″ style=”border:none;overflow:hidden” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ allowtransparency=”true” allow=”encrypted-media” /></div><p><strong>Read more from Yahoo Lifestyle:</strong></p><ul><li><p><a href=”https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/teen-expelled-arrested-over-racist-gun-video-224029191.html”>Teen expelled, arrested over racist gun videos: ‘I hate black people'</a></p></li><li><p><a href=”https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/naomi-campbell-says-she-was-banned-from-a-french-hotel-because-of-the-color-of-my-skin-213618910.html”>Naomi Campbell says she was banned from a French hotel ‘because of the color of my skin’</a></p></li><li><p><a href=”https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/elderly-women-who-told-burger-king-manager-go-back-to-mexico-apologize-in-heartfelt-letter-220145068.html”>Elderly women who told Burger King manager ‘Go back to Mexico’ apologize in ‘heartfelt’ letter</a></p></li></ul><p><em><strong>Follow us on</strong></em><a href=”https://www.instagram.com/yahoolifestyle/”><em><strong> Instagram</strong></em></a><em><strong>,</strong></em><a href=”https://www.facebook.com/yahoolifestyle”><em><strong> Facebook</strong></em></a><em><strong> and</strong></em><a href=”https://twitter.com/yahoolifestyle”><em><strong> Twitter</strong></em></a><em><strong> for nonstop inspiration delivered fresh to your feed, every day.</strong></em></p></body></html>
