An Amazon delivery driver has been arrested after repeatedly punching a pensioner she accused of having ‘white privilege’.
CCTV footage showed Itzel Ramirez, 21, hitting the customer in Castro Valley, California, who had reportedly told her ‘not to be a b***h’ following a delayed delivery.
Amazon confirmed it has sacked Ramirez after the incident on Thursday.
The woman, who lives in Vista Creek Apartments, had repeatedly asked the Amazon worker when her package was arriving, according to the building owner Doug Smith.
He said Ramirez told her it would come soon but then got annoyed by her constant questions.
Smith told KTVU-TV: ‘I believe the Amazon driver said something about “your white privilege,” and my tenant said, “you don’t need to be a b***h about it”.’
Ramirez is said to have hit the woman after this exchange but claims it was self-defense.
The woman did not want to be identified.
Ramirez faces two counts of elder abuse and battery involving serious injury and will be arraigned on Monday.
She is currently being held on $100,000 (£70,000) bail.
Amazon said in a statement: ‘This does not reflect the high standards we have for drivers who deliver our packages.
‘We take these matters seriously and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages.’
