Tim Kennedy is a retired professional martial arts fighter who has fought in prestigious promotions such as the UFC and Strikeforce. He is a fearless individual who always stands up for his beliefs. Recently, he took shots at WNBA superstar Brittney Griner after she was locked up in Russia following an alleged drug charge.
Griner is arguably the greatest women’s basketball player of all time and has achieved incredible feats in the sport. Unfortunately for her, she was detained in Moscow on alleged drug charges during the Russia – Ukraine conflict. Kennedy took to his Instagram to bash Griner. He posted a picture of her along with a long caption.
In the caption, he wrote, “Do you remember that time that you were protesting your own government and even requesting that the National Anthem not be played at your games then going back to this same government and pleading that they intervene on your behalf to get you out of a Russian prison after you illegally brought drugs into their country…. Does not get more ironic than this.”
This comes after the WNBA star kneeled down during the national anthem and protested against acts of police brutality in the United States. Kennedy called this behavior “ironic” as he believed she was “pleading” the same government she once attacked.
Despite his hostility for Griner, he felt she was “worth fighting for.” He wrote, “Even with her despicable behavior, I do believe that every American is worth fighting for, even those that hate their own country.”
The Rollercoaster UFC Career of Tim Kennedy
Kennedy fought some of the greats during his time with the UFC.
He had a meteoric rise in the UFC after defeating his first three opponents. This included Roger Gracie, a member of the prestigious Gracie family, who he defeated via a unanimous decision. He also defeated former champion Michael Bisping in 2014, which was a huge upset at the time.
Unfortunately for him, things took a turn for the worse. He lost back-to-back fights against top contenders Yoel Romero and Kelvin Gastelum. This marked the end of his career as he decided to retire after these losses.
